[14 Jan] Besides our speech and drama group performers, our individual participants of this year's Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival have done a great job as well. Please take a look at the filmed performances of some of our solo winners and be inspired by them!
[11 Jan] Congratulations to our speech and drama groups winning in this year's Hong Kong School's Speech Festival.
Our Junior Choral Speaking Team won the First Place with an Honours score of 90 while our Thematic Group Speaking Team accomplished the same feat with an incredibly high Honours score of 94. Here are their videoed work before they set off for the competitions. [4 Dec] Big congratulations to our Junior Choral Speaking team snatching yet another First Place at the Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival. This is in fact our 9th Junior Choral Speaking Winner since the restarting of our school in 2003!
This afternoon, the team, trained by Vice Principal Ms Jenny Ho and Ms Elizabeth Wong, went for the competition with the poem "A Dragon in the Classroom" by Charles Thomson. The adjudicator Mr Tham loved our work very much as can be seen from his words: "The little nuances, actions, gestures showed you had thought it over carefully, spent time in rehearsing and practised it really hard -- and you ended up with a marvelous performance." With a score of 90, this secures an Honours Certificate. Well done Ying Wa boys and teachers! Proud of you! Dr Lee [29 Nov] Our boys have created more miracles at the 75th Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival as they won for the 7th time in this challenging category of Thematic Group Speaking since we first joined it at the 66th festival.
As if winning the 7th time was not impressive enough, these 9 boys performed an act so brilliant that melted the heart of the Adjudicator who gave them a record-breaking 94 marks! I personally don't remember any group (or even solo performer) in our school receiving such a high score at the Speech Festival in our 20 years of history. Ajudicator Mr Owen praised them for their vocal strength, emotion quality and clarity. And he admitted that he seldom saw a group like ours with every member (regardless of roles) engaging at such a high level. A fun fact is that this year YWPS was the only team entering the Thematic Group Speaking (Primary) class. And therefore, insteading of having a "competitive" mood, they were directed into the thought of reaching at least the level of their former schoolmates participating in Thematic Group Speaking -- that is a score of 88. And it turned out that they did more than attaining the expected standard. I congratulate them and am proud of them. Dr Lee P.S. Their filmed performance will soon be available. ^o^
[12 Nov] Our P.5-6 Singapore Study Tour 2023 (26-30 Oct) revived and ended with a huge WOW! 30 selected boys had the chance to visit two local primary schools, Singapore Science Centre, Gardens by the Bay, Lau Ba Sat, NEWater, Little India and many more incredible locations. Instead of writing long paragraphs here, a sum up video has just been made and I'm glad to share it with you:
Regarding students' learning and feedback of this tour, I leave the space for our participants to tell us. Please keep an eye on the comments section here.

(16 Sept) Vice Principal Ms Jenny Ho had a wonderful chat with Mr Chow of our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The conversation was also filmed at our train carriage. This shortened version is for your early enjoyment while the full version is to be released by the PTA soon.
Now boys, after viewing this video, please try to answer AT LEAST ONE of the following questions: 1. What can you learn from Ms Ho? Why is that important? 2. What other questions would you have asked if you were the interviewer? Why would you like to ask these questions? 3. Ms Ho mentioned about cross-curricular learning. Now, what cross-curricular activities (involving more than 1 subject knowledge) would you like YWPS to hold this year? Happy watching! Dr Lee
(8 Sept) Three days ago, on Tuesday, I had the privilege to be interviewed by Mr Chow of our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). We had a great conversation and it was filmed at our train carriage at the playground. I think it is a nice thing to share this recorded interview with you. The above is a shortened version of the interview and the full version will be released by the PTA soon. Do keep an eye on their publications.
Now boys, after viewing this video, please try to answer AT LEAST ONE of the following questions: 1. What is the most important thing you have learnt from this conversation? Why is that important? 2. The award ceremony was held in the hall of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong on 13 Jun.
The three pieces are given respectively an Honourable Mention (Eric Lai 6E), a Bronze Prize (Ethan Ngai 6E), and a Gold Prize (Keith Cheung 6B), which is the top prize. Congratulations to these three young YWPS poets for their wonderful feat! Not only is it truly amazing that we have multiple poems selected into the top list of 19 pieces from hundreds of entries, we were the only boys awarded in the primary category, at least from what we saw on the stage at the ceremony! Quite remarkable isn't it? If you would like to take a look at their work, you are welcome to visit here. Well done, boys! Dr H C Lee [28 May] Congratulations to our Debating Team for another prestigious Champion trophy!
On 24 May, our Debating Team (Roderick Yuen 6A, Shaun Ng 6B, Ethan Ngai 6E) had their final match at the City University of Hong Kong for UNSDGs Debating Competition 2022/23 (UNESCO Hong Kong Association) against Maryknoll Convent School (Primary Section) with the motion "That homework is good for primary school students". Our side was the negative team and strongly argued that homework is bad for children! It was indeed an entertaining but difficult match and the affirmative side had some great points and rebuttals. The judges agreed that it was very hard to make a final decision but in the end, they thought we were more solid and consistent and thus granted us the champion trophy! Great job boys and thanks to our debating coach Mr Ching! Dr H C Lee P.S. Click here for our debating awards history |
